MotoGP returns to Sepang in November for the twenty-first running of the Malaysian MotoGP. This seating guide will help you get the most out of Sepang International Circuit.
The Hermann Tilke designed "super-circuit" was the first of its kind and has proven itself worthy of hosting the top tiers of racing, most famously the annual visit of the MotoGP Championship. Built in only 16 months, the Sepang International Circuit hosted both MotoGP and Formula 1 in their inaugural season.
The 15 turn, 5.543 km circuit is a high-speed circuit, with a mix of fast curves and challenging technical corners making it an engaging and challenging track. The approach to viewing was a huge step forward, with the mall layout of the main grandstands, grandstands at key points of the circuit, and hillside viewing areas looking over panoramas of the track. It's easy to see that this is a track for fans and drivers alike!
Unique to the Sepang International Circuit, the start / finish straight and back straight are alongside each other, only separated by a tight hairpin. The Mall is an area with a north and south facing grandstand alongside both straights, and a tower on the inside of the hairpin. In between the two stands is a paved area with food and merchandise concession stands.
For the Start, Finish, and Pre-Race
The north stand of the mall area faces the grid and pit buildings, with the start line and grid located approximately midway down the stand, so this is the location to try get to on arrival to see the pre-race build up first hand. Additionally, the tight hairpin preceding the straight, and the tricky turns 1 and 2 at the other end of the straight makes for plenty of overtaking opportunities. Main Grandstand tickets are priced at £56 per person.
For Action and Overtaking
The technical nature of the circuit makes for many different overtaking chances, as there are multiple lines through some of the trickier corners. Grandstand F not only allows you to see the breaking area for turn 7 in front of you, but looking over here also looks into the final turn, a tight hairpin that requires a perfect balance of speed, turn, and control. Grandstand F tickets are priced at £23 per person.
For the Super-fan
Sepang International Circuit boasts a bigger selection of Fanstands than most. Legend Valentino Rossi's fanstand is K1, based on the first turn of the track, a long right-hander that can be especially challenging in changing conditions. Current Champion Marc Marquez also has a fan stand, located within the Main Grandstand by the grid, whilst local hero Hafizh Syahrin's fans are based in the Tower Area of the Mall. The newly formed Petronas Race Team also have a fanstand based in Grandstand F.
The K1 Grandstand views over turn 1, a hot bed of action. Most recently in 2018, Valentino Rossi lost the front of the bike mid-way through the corner and crashed out of the lead of the race.
Tickets for the Valentino Rossi fanstand are priced at £45 per person. Tickets for the Marc Marquez fanstand and the Hafizh Syahrin fanstand are priced at £71 per person, and tickets for the Petronas Race Team's fanstand are priced at £39 per person
For the Explorers
Unique to the Malaysian Grand Prix, Sepang International Circuit offer a Premier Roving ticket. Enjoy the freedom and variation that comes with being able to access the Main Grandstand, VR46 Tribune, Grandstand F and the C2 Hillstand. Premier Roving tickets are priced £84 for the weekend.
Please note that access is not granted to Marc Marquez, Hafizh Syahrin nor Petronas Sepang Racing Team tribunes.
Additionally, the C2 hillstand overlooks the south, and the K2 hillstand looks over the north areas of the track, allowing a visual panorama of the circuit, and at a bargain price. Tickets for the C2 Hillstand and K2 Hillstand are priced at £13 per person for the weekend.
For that Something Special
For those looking for a little more than just a seat, there are two very popular hospitality options at Sepang International Circuit:
The Club Suites are based above the South Main Grandstand, accessible from the Mall. Offering a view over the south of the circuit, you are fully catered for with an all-day buffet containing a selection of both Western and Asian dishes. Unlimited water, soft drinks, and beer are included, along with a complimentary race programme. Club Suite Hospitality is available for £486 per person.
Alternatively, the best seat in the house is without doubt the MotoGP VIP Village. As well as prime viewing locations from above the pit garages, guests can enjoy an exclusive entertainment programme and an outstanding catering service to accompany each day's action on track, providing guests with a memorable GP experience in a relaxed, stylish and exclusive atmosphere. As well as including catering throughout the day, this also includes a pit lane walk, and a paddock tour where you could bump into your favourite MotoGP stars! Bonus Activity - Night Track Tour
On Friday or Saturday night, once the schedule for the day is complete and the garage doors are down in the pit lane, why not jump on an open top bus and enjoy a lap of the circuit?
