Getting to Shanghai International Circuit

Shanghai International Circuit

The circuit is on the Jai Lui Expressway, close to the border of the Jiuangsu Province. An eight-lane motorway gives drivers good access to the circuit.

By law, visitors and tourists are not allowed to drive in China. Only foreign nationals with a valid residence permit may drive in China. You will have to pass a driving test and get a Chinese driving licence. An International Driving Permit is not sufficient.

However, you may choose to hire a car with a driver.

The journey from Downtown Shanghai takes approximately 50 minutes.

    Coach & Bus

Shanghai International Circuit run shuttle buses between Shanghai International Circuit and the CaoXi Transportation Hub. These will be confirmed nearer to the race weekend.

Taxis can drop-off and pick-up at Yi Ning Road to the south of Waterscape Square.

There are an abundance of taxis available in Shanghai and fares are fairly low in comparison to other countries therefore this can be an easy and convenient way to get to the circuit. We recommend asking your hotel concierge to arrange a taxi for you as they will know of local reputable firms.

Try to arrange a pick up in advance for the end of the day to avoid long waiting times.

The circuit recommends that fans taking public transport to the circuit should take the Metro Line 11. Shanghai International Circuit has its own station and so this is where you will need to alight. Metro Line 11 has two branches and only the trains going to Huaquiao stop at the Shanghai Circuit station. The exit of the station is about 300 yards from Gate 1 (behind the main grandstand) and 500 yards from Gate 11 (behind Grandstand K).

If you are staying in the popular areas of East Nanjing Road or People’s Square in the city centre, you will need to take a Metro Line 2 train and change at Jiangsu Road for Metro Line 11.

If you are staying in Pudong, you can take the Maglev train line from here in to Shanghai centre.
