Update: 8th July 10:37am
If your Park and Ride site is full and you have been turned away then you will be permitted into the circuit car park with your Park and Ride pass at no additional cost and without penalty. However, Silverstone have advised that Towcester Park and Ride have found additional capacity.
Update: 6.10pm - the statement below has been released by Silverstone:
Silverstone encourages fans to attend the British Grand Prix
Silverstone would like to thank fans that heeded the circuit’s advice on Friday evening and did not come to the Formula 1™ Santander British Grand Prix on Saturday. While it was an extremely difficult decision, and one that will have disappointed people that had to stay away, the decision gave the circuit a fighting chance to repair and get previously unsafe car parks into a state that can be used on race day.
The circuit has implemented further contingency plans throughout Friday night and Saturday. As a result, it is now in a stronger position to accommodate all ticket holders coming to Silverstone on Sunday.
The circuit has issued the following important information for fans coming to Silverstone tomorrow (Sunday 8th July):
Silverstone Circuits Limited
7th July 5.30pm
Silverstone Circuit have just released a statement confirming that their recovery work of the water-logged grass car parking areas has been positive and that their public car parks will re-open to ticket-holders for the main race on Sunday. Park and Ride sites will continue to operate a full service for visitors that have existing Park and Ride passes. Bus services are also expected to operate as normal.
The last 48 hours has been a mixed bag for visitors and whilst many spectators have been able to access the circuit effectively, we sincerely appreciate the difficulties and frustrations of those guests who were unable to attend and may also have been stuck in traffic congestion. In the coming days, Silverstone will undoubtedly be reviewing in detail the causes and responses to the circumstances, but their priority at the current time is to do everything possible to make Sunday's traffic flow and parking as efficient as possible in the current conditions.
Despite the good news relating to the Sunday public car parking, we would like to remind visitors that weather conditions are still poor and the car parks are still very wet so arrival times may be slow. Therefore, we would like to re-iterate our previous advice to arrive as early as possible (car parks open from approximately 5.00am and circuit admission gates from 6.00am), bring food and drink provisions, appropriate weather-proof clothing including shoes/boots, and ensure there is plenty of petrol in your car. You can keep up-to-date on Silverstone Radio at 87.7FM and on Twitter by following @SilverstoneUK.
If you would prefer to use public transport then a shuttle bus will be running from Northampton Greyfriars Bus Station (Bay 7) via Northampton Rail Station to Silverstone approximately every 10 minutes between 6.35am and 11.05am on Sunday. Similarly megabus are running shuttles from a variety of towns and cities directly to the circuit which can be booked at www.megabus.com. However, please be aware at the current time there is no indication whether unused Sunday parking passes will be refunded by Silverstone Circuit.
For visitors that have been affected on the Friday and Saturday, Silverstone will be releasing full details of their refund procedures early next week. We are grateful for your patience whilst this is organised and we will provide you with all the information as it becomes available from Silverstone Circuit.
To all visitors attending tomorrow, we wish you all the very best for a successful and enjoyable day.
