Italian GP Weekend 2009

, 09 Oct 2009
By Rob M.
Overall the race was a great experience. It is an F1 race after all. Getting to the track from Milan can be a challenge if you don't speak Italian. We asked several workers in the underground subway stations, and got a different answer every time. The best way to get there is by a combination of subway, train, and bus. The train and bus are free on race day. I had general admission tickets, so we had to fend for ourselves to get a good view of the track. We were in GA grandstands along the straight by the "double martini" signs after the Lesmos. There is no big screen TV there so you can't keep track of scoring. Be advised - Kangaroo TV rental does not work on this part of the track. There are also good GA grandstands at the Lesmos, which have the added benefit of a big screen TV so you can follow along with timing and scoring. BRING BINOCULARS to view the screen though. I am always appalled at the high cost of tickets and the lack of access at F1 events. Here in the US, almost all racing series have open pits and paddock areas. Not so in F1. I blame Bernie.

Unfortunately the toilet facilities at Parabolica (22) stand were grim ! They were not portaloos, but authentic squat over type, ok if you are a bloke but not good for ladies.

Travel advice, buy Milan a guide book with Metro maps and travel advice.

We had a great weekend in Milan. The general admission tickets meant we could move around the track getting different views of the action. the special trains on Sunday from Milan central made it very easy and quick to get to the track. A great event which was much enjoyed.

Monza 2009

, 29 Sep 2009
By John O'Neill
We only attended the Sunday race day, but both the atmosphere and view of the track were excellent.

The seating was a bit rough, only a concrete bench but in a great position. we travelled by train from Como and caught the bus from the station to the track. The transport was well organised, and the work through the park was pleaseant, both before and after the race.

The toilet facilities were less than ideal. After all these years the porter loos should have been replaced by decent clean toilet blocks. The pole dancers in a beer tent made for a difficult exit.

Other than those two complaints, overall we had a wonderful experience and wish to thank yopu for your assistance with the tickets.

Monza 2009

, 27 Sep 2009

Fantastic weekend, we actually spent four days at the track. If you have a 3 day ticket the circuit is basically open on thursday as well. This lets walk into all the granstands etc and also see and talk to (Shout at) the drivers doing thier circuit recons. They also open the pit lane to let you get closer to the action. All the racing was excellent and big screens kept us up to date wherever we sat. Also Get a Kangaroo TV, at least for race day, the extra commentry (BBC 5 Live) and the timing screens only improves the experience.
Only downsides:
1) Toilet facilities are a bit basic.
2) Transport too and from the circuit was a lot more complicated than it should be. We stayed in Milan and caught the Train from Centrale to Monza. However there was no info desk set up for the weekend or any special signage.
Also when you got to Monza station you were still about 4 miles away from the circuit. There was free bus set up but this still dropped you about a mile from the circuit.

General admission access

, 23 Sep 2009
By Adam Tovey
Nothing that bookf1 could to to enhance the weekend, but the Monza circuit has very poor signage for people with general admission tickets. It is very hard to find a spot close to one of the corners. The paths around the circuit are atrocious as it is not easy to find your way to the best spots. Ticket price was excellent however and I will be going again. But in a grandstand seat.

Italian Grand Prix 2009

Great weekend, great atmosphere. Transport to and from the event well organised though the bus going through Monza was understandably slow! Free train on Sunday excellent idea. Definitely a weekend for the men! The male of the party was impressed when everyone was able to walk the course after the event! My only criticism was that even though we were opposite a screen I couldn't read it and the commentary was untelligible, the Italian one got faster and faster, and my Italian is not very good, and the English one was too quiet

Fabulous venue, either stay in Milan or near the Railway Line. Transport buses laid on from railway station. Milan also is fantastic for a night out.

Not sure what you are asking for here

, 22 Sep 2009
By Betty Fiksel
There was no crowd control while on the race grounds. People would walk every which way and there was very poor signage and not many people to ask directions of. In fact I got into one crowd situation that was completely unmonitored by any of the officials where I was crushed by the crowd, felt I couldn't breathe and thought that I would never come out the other side...everyone pushing and shoving with no one to control the crowd...I really thought I was going to die...it was absolutely the worst experience of my life.

Good venue, transport to and from the track could be a bit better on practice and quailifying days. Good on race day , though struggled a bit with signs etc as I dont have any Italian.
Would have liked to know in advance about 200 Euro refundable deposit for Kangaroo TV

The special one

, 21 Sep 2009
By Nate
Fantastic circuit and atmosphere!

Tips

Be prepared for 30 min walk from drop off point, wear good shoes

seats high up in 21e can see tv and much more of the track than lower down

don't be afraid to stay out of Milan as trains are brill, just be near a main line station

make the most of the track access after race, some people didn't realise till it was too late

Make sure you go, it's fantastic!

An excellent trip, the memory of which will stay with us for years!! One word of advice for the ladies going to Monza, there is a lot of walking involved so make sure you wear the right shoes.

George's 60th birthday

Brillaint weekend we enjoyed the whole exprience. The walk to the track was a bit long in view of the heat and as we had a 3 day pass we were at the pit walk on the Thursday and we would have appreciated a free bus on that day as it took as one and a half hours to walk from the track to the rail station. Just read some of the views and I have to agree about the one about the toilets, they were totally disgusting and I agree about the shortage of paper etc, thank goodness I had taken hand wipes with me to kill off any germs that were lingering about. Another thing that would improve things is the rubbish. When we arrived on the Friday having done a pit walk on the Thursday the rubbish bins had not been emptied from the Thursday and were overflowing with all sorts of rubbish, food included which would only encourage vermin etc.

May be stupid, but not sure what question means???

Sure ours must have been one of the best seats - overtaking, breaking before bend, not far from start/finish line.
Very long walk to seats, but not a problem. Could be for some though.
Not enough info about transport - on last day someone told us about a train which would have brought us nearer to where we were sitting.
Very well organised overall.

Fantastic!

By Monza 2009 - WOW!
Had a great time at Monza; first time at this race and as a Ferrari fan you can't beat it for atmosphere.
Travelling to and from the circuit is easy once you know how although we didn't arrive at the circuit the same way more than once! We found the best way was via Biassono/Lesmo station, you can then enter either at the Lesmo entrance which is right at the railway station or walk for about 20 minutes to the Biassono entrance. Either way, you will be about a 30-40 minute walk from the station to the F1 Village.
If you're going out on the Thurs for the pit-walk, definitely use the public tranport from Monza station as it is a 1.5hr walk from Monza station to the pits. Very tiring especially when you have to go all the way back again a couple of hours later!
Tickets at Prima Variante 8A are fantastic; I knew beforehand that I wouldn't be able to see down the main-straight (public park, trees are in the way) but others were complaining. Fantastic views of the cars slowing down to negotiate the curves then speeding away into the distance. This grandstand also gave the best view of a big screen I've ever had.
Facilities were pretty good; toilets so-so (plenty of them and no queuing but not somewhere you'd want to hang around in for long!), food priced as expected and actually quite good but i'd suggest eating before quali/race etc as queues can be enormous after. Drink was expensive, but it didn't put me off :-) There would be no problem bringing your own stuff in if you're on a budget.
As for the race - well, it was great. The 'gifted' 3rd place for Raikkonen on the last lap felt like a victory (I was at Montreal 2008 so this was like Karma) and the atmosphere down on the track afterwards will not be forgotten for a very long time.
Don't rush off after the race, getting to the train station early will only result in queuing. Enjoy the experience as long as you can, they will cram you into the trains to get home so you shouldn't have to wait to long once you do head to the station!

If you're thinking of it........do it!

I've been using BookF1 for a number of years now and can't fault their service.

Monza 2009

Toilets were a complete joke. Great on day 1 (Thursday), clean still on Friday with paper, dirty on Saturday with no paper left anywhere. Disgusting on Sunday - just don't go near them! Whats wrong with simply cleaning and restocking them during the event?
Every other aspect was very good.
