Any fan with an interest in F1history has to go to Monza. 60 odd drivers, bike racers, spectators and marshals have been killed here since 1922 - Alberto Ascari, Jochen Rindt (the only posthumous world champion) and Ronnie Peterson to name just three. To walk away from the modern track through the trees to a section of the old banking is really spooky, and at the end of the race you can join the tifosi and walk around Parabolica.
I found access really easy - drove down from Bellagio on Lake Como, parked in the park-and-ride area just off the Milan/Lecco road (20 Euros) about 4 miles from the track, shuttle bus in, 5 minutes walk in. 1.5 hours to get from Bellagio 40 miles away to the track). At the end of the race I only had to wait 15min for a shuttle bus back to the park and ride, then about 15 min queue to get back on the main road.
Catering on circuit was pretty good - paninis, hot dogs, croissants and decent coffee, and not rip-off prices. Toilets were no better or worse than at most other outdoor events.
I had a GA ticket and walked around the track from Parabolica up past Ascari as far as the 1st chicane. I found the best place to get a sense of the speed and sound of F1 cars was the inside of Curva Grande (Biassono), where you can get to 20-30ft from the track. If you want to take photos in GA the view is spoiled around most of the track by chainlink fencing and concrete posts, but I found you can get some good shots over the top of the fencing from next to the bridge just before Ascari.
If you want to walk from one corner to another it is very easy to get lost in the trees - there are lots of little paths curving through the undergrowth. A compass wouldn't be a bad idea.
All-in-all a great day, and I'll be back (once I've done all the rest of the European GPs at least once!)

We refer to it as "Messy Monza" - total confusion with signage on the roads (which changed on a daily basis) - no-one knew much about anything, e.g. where the toilets were, how to find merchandise - which was also very disappointing with nowhere near the choice we expected. The toilet facilities went from bad to worse over the 3 days and in the end were just disgusting. The food and beverage facilities were overpriced and tasteless. Parking was a nightmare and our advice would be that if you can afford it, go by helicopter!!
The race however, is definitely worth all the hassle, our seats in Alta Velocita C we would say are among the best, not only for the F1 but all the other races, to see the cars all reach that bend was just amazing. For atmosphere too, it was great, we were fortunate to be near to some very passionate Ferrari fans who made the experience evn more enjoyable. If you have the opportunity to go just research where to stay and access to the circuit, take along plenty of tissues and wetones for your own hygiene and mosquito spray, then enjoy a spectacular race. Thanks bookF1 - for your efficiency in sneding out our tickets for Monza and Hockenheim, we'll be using you again very soon.
