I go to Silverstone on an annual basis, and have done for many years now, and was looking forward to this year even more so because of the new Wing building.
On the Friday, we tried to get into the Abbey grandstand but we were told it was for Santander guests who would never sit in those seats the whole weekend. Disgraceful. So we headed down to the GA section just below the stand, and it was like we`d travelled back 20 years. It was truly awful, after all the hype I was standing knee deep in muck! No matter, as an F1 enthusiast, I wasn`t bothered, but my father who enjoys his luxuries, wasnt so pleased.
So, to Saturday, we watched FP3 from the Becketts grandstand, it was brilliant, thoroughly recommend it. But for qualifying, it was a completely different story. It really did seem unfair we couldn`t get into our grandstand because people who paid 400 pounds less than we did wanted to sit there, so it looked like we wouldn`t get a spot for qualifying, but by the grace of god, we got 2 exceptional seats in the Club grandstand, another brilliant stand.
Sunday, we sat ourselves down in our booked seats, which just so happened to be directly in front of pole position. Only one problem with the grandstand, couldn`t see the Red Arrows, thanks to that bloody roof! No matter, a sensational race it was, but I`d heard rumours that you could invade the track at the end. It said you couldnt on the screens, then suddenly, you could! I was so frustrated, I wouldve queued to see the podium! No matter, the experience was epic!
Lastly, the facilities have been totally ignored by the looks of it to build the Wing. The general admission ticket holders are getting less bang for their buck, the lack of toilets was ridiculous, and the merchandise stands have been reduced. BUT NO MATTER! Im going next year, and it was still terrific
The camping facillities were sub standard, not enough showers! wc's were never cleaned!
I will not be using the camping again! very disappointed, spoilt my whole experience

I'm sure that the weather didn't help, but the campsite was dire! The marshalls organising the fields didn't seem to know or to care what field you had booked, there wasn't enough washing facilities, and don't get me started on the muddy field. As I said before, you can't help the weather, but you need much better draininge!!And, I didn't expect to have to get so 'cosy' with other campers. Some people had hugh amounts of room, having put up their gazebos and dining tables on what was enough room to pitch a couple of tents on-when we came back to our tent on the Friday, someone had pitched between our tent and our car!!This was surely down to the marshalls on the field to police, so that everyone could have a fair amount of room, and pitch on the field that was booked(which we were told we couldn't when we arrived). We have done a lot of camping over the last 30 years, and I most certainly would not come back again.Another point-I would have welcomed a sandwich stall with some salad and fresh fruit, rather than so many hot dog and burger stands. You do get a bit fed up of Hog Roast 4 days on the trot! Go to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and see the standard of the food stalls there-much better.

I'm a massive F1 fan so will always enjoy this week-end. My only issues are with the the Silverstone Circuit itself.
Some of the changes made to Silverstone are excellent for the teams and for corporate but at the expense of the experience for the fans. It's a bit wrong when corporate get the best seats at the circuit yet they are empty for most of the week-end. Was also quite sad to see that when Jenson pulled over at the end of the pit-lane, 2,000 people suddenly came running out of the hospitality tent next to the pit-lane. 90% of people in their aren't interested in F1 yet get the best seats - there's definitely an inbalance there that needs addressing.
Also, lack of facilities in the new loop section. It's quite a walk from the main drag to the loop section (Village A, Village B, and Farm). 3 stands that hold approx' 10,000 fans, yet they decide to put 1 block of toilets with just 3 toilets in it. It's a bit wrong when you pay all that money yet have to schedule in when to go to the toilet as you know it's going to be at least a half hour wait. I managed to find a half hour window betweeen the drivers parade and the red arrows display.
Finally, I always used to sit on the Pits Straight. It is more expensive but when you factor in the extra entertainment you get (pre-race build up, beginning and end of drivers parade, race start, pit stops, and podium) it was worth it. However, they have obviously moved the Pits Straight but built a grandstand that holds just 25% of what the old grandstand held - and charge more for it. Not only that, but you couldn't see half the pit lane from there because of the design of the complex, and the podium faces away from grandstand (unless you were right at the top end of the pits straight complex, you can't see the podium - Club is the place to sit to see that, but then you miss the start). Not well thought out! I have now decided I would rather sacrifice everything I enjoyed in the past on the Pits Staight in exchange for a better view of the race and seeing more of it.
I must say the new raised grandstands at Becketts and Woodcote A give great views of a large proportion of the lap and I will be sitting in one of them next year.
