silverstone f1 weekend review.

General Admission
By kevin campbell, 18 Jul 2011
We arrived at the woodlands campsite on thursday evening to find it already quite full, there were a few changes to the campsite most notably the new toilet/shower blocks, they were 100% better, but whoever designed the showers needs to be shot as there was no where to take off your shoes before entering the shower area. This was more evident this year as there was muck everywhere, also the meter was out side the shower cubicle only giving you 30 sec's to undress and unless you were prepaired nowhere to put your clothes.
The race weekend was enjoyable and I loved the new track layout, and the rain did add to the excitement to the race, mybe they should put sprinklers on the track. The after race entertainment was well worth staying around for with almost all of the red bull team showing up. Overall great weekend.

Excellent

Village A
By Ricardo Gutierrez , 18 Jul 2011
We went to Silverstone for the first time with my son and we found the whole experience absolutely fantastic. Travel by bus (megabus) which was another adding point as we did not want to drive. The facilities at Silverstone were very good (food, toilets, shops etc)

Fabulous race, great atmosphere, improvements needed on staff knowledge and signs

Club B
By Lola, 18 Jul 2011
We bought platinum tickets for the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the camping at Whittlebury and the race days experience.
We thought the roving seats for Friday and Saturday was an excellent idea as we got to enjoy different views of the cars. We were thoroughly impressed by the seats we had on Club Corner for the race.
The choice of food was excellent over the whole weekend but we were disappointed that the advertised alcohol was not always available e.g. the traditional cider company had only Gaymers for sale.

The main criticism we had was that there was very little in the way of signs directing you to Whittlebury campsite from the circuit. On the first day we got lost trying to find our way back so signage would have helped. The other criticism was the lack of security staff knowledge. We asked several staff where the campsite was and none of them had heard of it despite being almost adjacent to the campsite.

One suggestion would be to run shuttle buses from one end of the circuit to another as the amount of walking was tiring across the whole day.

great day but difficulties parking

Copse A (was Copse C)
By Angela James, 18 Jul 2011
Fantastic atmosphere. Good facilities for food and toilets etc - can never have enough toilets. Great view from Copse C. Saw some overtaking thanks to Lewis! Biggest frustration was finding the parking at Whittlebury Park. In fact we didn`t find it - got caught in one way system and parked in car park near to entrance to circuit and walked for half an hour to get to Copse. No clear signs and everyone we asked was unable to tell us where to go!? Very frustrating! Would love to know where we should have gone! Had some advice by email prior to event but unclear! Queues can be quite scary - but enjoyed the atmosphere!

What does this mean

National Straight
By Sharon McCahon, 18 Jul 2011
Could have had more information regarding the Park & Ride and how long it took to get from to the Race Track. On the Saturday when we had travelled from our Hotel we found out that we had arrived for the last bus that morning. Although the information detailed the time of the last bus on the Sunday there had been no indication regarding the Saturday. Did not receive Map or information on arrival at Silverstone. I suspect that you need to attend an initial race to understand what exactly is on offer and next time you would ensure that you got to see all areas and those that you are allowed into.

?

Becketts
By carlo coppo, 17 Jul 2011
access was horrible. six people in the INFORMATION tent on saturday were unable to help me and my disabled buddy with how to get to becketts, what local roads lead to it, whether it was marked (it wasn't), how far from the gate to the track, was it negotiable for a 75 year old fan on a cane coming by taxi (it wasn't), and numerous race staff on sunday had absolutely no idea where beckett's was or how to get there. also, the bathroom facilities were woefully inadequate, there was no disabled bathroom, and you could make 10 times more money by having more full-service bars. one susggestion i woud make to assist first time visitors to the venue is to change the map on your program to show the local roads by name leading to the various gates. even when our taxi driver finally found the entrance to becketts, it was unmarked. and then the gate staff incorrectly advised us that my buddy, who hobbles on a cane to walk, would only have to walk "about a half-mile" to get to the seats. it was well ove a mile and there was no handicapped assistance at all. great race but you really have to educate your staff on venue access for the uninitiated who are spending thousands of dollars and travelling thousands of miles (from california, in our case) to enjoy the event.

Review

Becketts
By Rhoda mcPherson, 17 Jul 2011
Enjoyed the weekend and all very well organised apart from disabled information. One of our party is disabled, it was so hard to try and find out any disabled info, actually a bit of a nightmare. It should not be this way. Please have a much more detailed pack in future for disabled people. If you want to phone me to discuss then no problem, number is 07777 671 559

Fantastic to see the GP, access to the track was dreadful though

General Admission
By Tony, 17 Jul 2011
Had a great day once at the track, to get there we had to walk through mud (not sure why). On the way back the information post looked genuinely shocked and confused when we asked about transport to Milton Keynes. In general the surrounding area was very disorganised and the facilities average at best.

silverstone 2011

Luffield A (was Luffield B)
By Richard Channing, 16 Jul 2011
stayed at litchlake farm campsite in motorhome so can`t comment on ablutions block but other than that very good easy to get to from the south and very quick to the track i had a seat in luffield from van to seat 10 mins max stalls selling food, f1 merch and stuff on site a good place to stay, it was my first time at silverstone and was very impressed and my first time using bookf1 also very impressed i had a problem with my booking (my fault) bookf1 were right on it sorted it out straight away no quibbleing. The best F1 ive been to so far what a place it`s pure F1 Brilliance, we plan to return in 2012 through bookf1.

Excellent seats and facilities at Club Silverstone

Club Silverstone at Becketts
By KJ, 16 Jul 2011
It was a great weekend, I've always sat at Luffield before but Becketts is so much better with a view of most of the circuit. Facilities at Club Silverstone were really useful, especially with a child in tow, it gave us a space for him and short queues to clean loos! Catering was good as well.
It was expensive, but worth it. Only downside was the exit traffic jam. How come my local football club can get 40000 people out of the city double quick yet Silverstone still struggles?

2011 GP

General Admission - Luffield A Terrace
By Andy, 16 Jul 2011
My 37th year and I will be back - have never bought a grandstand ticket and to be quite honest never will. Sat in the pits stand on friday (when they are free I know what a cheapskate) but for the money being charged for Saturday and Sunday for these seats - the legroom is appalling, I'm not that tall but everytime anyone wanted to get out you had to stand and even then they were squeezing and pushing to get past. With Sunday in mind though - given the rake of the stand and the low roof you will not see anything of the Red Arrows and your view is restricted to the track and and the pit garages (up to their roof) and we weren't even half way up. The stand roof gave no protection against the elements as there are no sides or back on them and although it may have been somwhat extreme weather we still got soaked.

MAJOR GRIPE!! in past years there have been the massive promo stands from Red Bull, Santander, Mercedes etc. Where were they this year? The space behind the old pit straight was almost derelict and slightly forlorn

Very enjoyable weekend

Club Silverstone at Becketts
By Adam Hillier, 16 Jul 2011
We were very surprised when we got to the track to find that there was no traffic at all running into the circuit. The park and ride scheme was very effective at reducing the number of cars heading to the track.
The club silverstone hospitality building was very well equipped. It was clean, the staff were attentive and the large screen in the garden area was ideal when the weather let up. The view of the track was great. Becketts was a really good place to watch the racing, and we also got a good view of turns 1,2,3 and 4.

Excellent weekend.

By Cynthia Shepherd, 16 Jul 2011
We had a fabulous weekend.
I think perhaps next time I would pay a little extra and have a grandstand seat. With general addmission we had to get to the track for 5-30 am in order to get a descent viewing point. We still had a very great time.
